Opening Day 2024 at Silver Dollar City

Though the weather was chilly, we still had a fantastic time exploring Silver Dollar City on opening day, gathering details to share with you all. In this blog post we plan to show you what’s NEW (like the NEW Fire in the Hole), what’s changed, and what is still to come throughout the 2024 year at Silver Dollar City.

Opening day at Silver Dollar City took place on Saturday, March 9th, 2024. This initial day of the season kicked off the Spring Break celebration at SDC, which runs from March 9th through March 24th this year. Come along with us as we explore what’s new and what’s different in the parks during this new year of fun at SDC.

When wandering around Silver Dollar City, you might notice that things look a little bit different at the previously labeled, “Fireman’s Landing”, which is now titled, “The Fire District.” Though it may look slightly different, you can still tell that this is a very family-friendly area of the park, fun for all ages. You will see that the little swings, called “Fireman’s Flyers,” have been moved toward the waterside in order to make more room for the pathways leading to the NEW Fire in the Hole ride.

And YES, this NEW Fire in the Hole ride was running and welcoming guests, or should we say new recruits, on opening day, March 9th. You should have seen the smiles on everyone’s faces to realize that we all finally had the chance to stand in line for this highly anticipated addition to the park! We had the pleasure of hopping aboard these NEW pumper wagons to help alleviate the fire that set the town ablaze. Though the official Grand Opening for this ride isn’t until March 30th, they will be welcoming riders, when possible, in order to work out any kinks before the official Grand Opening on March 30th.

Here is our Branson Fam overview of the ride: It is extremely nostalgic and true to the original Fire in the Hole ride in so many ways. You will notice mostly familiar scenes throughout the ride, along with some NEW, updated surprises in the scenes along the way. Before you hop on this ride, you will still have the opportunity to place your bags and loose articles into the cubbies. Then, take your seats and listen to the employees’ instructions. Soon, you will be on your way as a recruit to help put out the fires all around the town and to catch those pesky, up-to-no-good baldknobbers!

In our opinion, this ride is extremely smooth, even through the drops. The drops are not huge, nor intense. We would actually compare the smoothness of this part of the ride to driving through the Ozarks hills. You will also notice that the sound is extremely clear, which is in large part due to the NEW on-board sound system aboard each cart of your pumper wagon.  When the ride is completed, it’s time to celebrate with the citizens of SDC because you were able to help save the town.

Ride photos are available for viewing and purchasing outside the exit of the ride. You can even purchase a daily pass or full season pass for a digital photo card. This photo card gives you access to digital downloads of all your Silver Dollar City photos taken throughout the park and at select rides during your visit. Also outside the exit of the ride, you will find the Fire in the Hole Mercantile cart. As you can guess, this is where you can purchase your favorite Fire in the Hole merchandise, including hats, T-shirts, cups, mugs, bags, keychains, lanyards, and more! So don’t forget to grab your merch from the mercantile!

Another highly anticipated addition to the City is Sadie’s Pretzel Cafe. This is located in the area where the Taste of the City shed used to be, right outside The Fire District. Unfortunately, on opening day, the Cafe was not open yet, but employees said that they hope this eating establishment and dining patio will be open sometime in the next week. This will be wonderful because this business adds variety to more delicious food options in the park, and it also provides an additional dining area for people to sit and enjoy their food and beverages close to a family-focused area of the park. Mobile ordering is said to be a reality at this new dining location.

Not far up the hill from Sadie’s Pretzel Cafe, you will find the NEW Flanders Dry Goods. This is the Fire in the Hole - themed clothing store, directly across from the Boatworks Theater. This little shop has a variety of Fire in the Hole AND Red Flanders family merchandise. Inside this store you will be able to purchase shirts, hats, cups, mugs, magnets, lanyards, even snacks, and so much more! Don’t worry, friends, this is where you can find your very own pair of Red Flanders’ pants. These babies were the hot sellers on opening day. We wouldn’t be surprised if these very special pants stay the hot selling item for quite a while!

Since we are still talking about things that are NEW, let’s check out the NEW Fire in the Hole Ice Cream at Hannah’s Ice Cream Parlor. This ice cream consists of marshmallow ice cream, with crushed graham cracker pieces and chocolate ribbons throughout each bite. This ice cream is currently only available at Hannah’s Ice Cream Parlor on the town square. However, Silver Dollar City has promised that this new ice cream creation will soon be in several grocery stores where other Hiland Dairy products are sold.

We also noticed that there is a NEW Fire in the Hole Flavor of Dippin’ Dots at each of the Dippin’ Dots stands. This new addition is a refreshing blend of strawberry and orange ice. This will sound especially good on those hot days coming in the Missouri summertime.

Many of us have been looking forward to seeing the NEW Heartland Home Furnishings location. It is a beautiful new building on Hugo’s Hill Street that is also full of beautiful furnishings on the inside. Here you will find a variety of only the finest furniture pieces that are hand-crafted right here at SDC. You will also find lovely collections of home decor to enhance any room in your home. If you’re looking for a few moments of peace and comfort in your day at the city, we highly suggest stepping into the Heartland Home Furnishings store.

As for the former location of Heartland Home Furnishings, near the Red Gold Heritage Hall, we haven’t heard set plans for that building quite yet. But we will keep you all updated once we hear about any plans.

As for shows during this Spring Break Celebration event, you can catch fun shows and music throughout the theaters in the park. We were able to catch the comedy and magic of the very funny Chris Stanley, the beautiful piano performances of David Howarth, and, of course, the upbeat tunes of the Rivertown Ramblers.

But the show that always steals our attention AND our hearts is the Perondi’s Stunt Dog Experience, which is playing in the Opera House over Spring Break. These dogs are beyond adorable, performing tricks and stunts that have all been taught using positive reinforcement training. All animals in the show have been rescued from animal shelters around the United States. We love that the Perondi’s share about each dog, their mixed breed, and where they were rescued from, as it creates a story of each animal when they perform their favorite stunts to amaze the crowd!

Speaking of the crowd, we love that there is so much audience participation in this show. We hope that you have a chance to attend this show and to hear the continued message of the Perondi’s, which encourages love of animals, and to responsibly rescue pets when you make them part of your family. Remember, if you stick around after the show, you might just be able to sneak in some puppy selfies and cuddles from the stars who just rocked the stage.

Along the lines of welcoming animals into your family, you might want to keep your eyes out to spot a new, fun, SDC theme park find, named Clark the Shark. As you explore all around Silver Dollar City, keep your eyes out for this little fella. If you spot Clark the Shark, you can either choose to keep him, or place him in another area of the park to keep the fun going for other park-goers! Be sure to snap a Shell-fie with Clark and tag him (after you follow him) on Facebook and Instagram. He’s looking to spread happiness to all who find him!

Street Fest will be the next festival from April 11th-29th. This will be the final year for Street Fest, so be sure to make it into the city if this is one of your favorite festivals! We look forward to bringing you more SDC content, as well as great information about the Branson area. Be sure to SUBSCRIBE on YouTube, follow along with us here on the blog, on Facebook, and on Instagram! We love to stay connected with you all. Until our next adventure, fam, we'll catch y'all later.

Shepherd of the Hills also has fun events throughout the different seasons of the year. We especially love their Fall PumpkinFest and their Christmas North Pole Adventure. It is quickly becoming one of our favorite places to spend family time in Branson.

Another favorite place of ours, which is no secret, that we highly recommend for your family as well is Silver Dollar City. This theme park is about to show us an incredible year! The Spring Break event will be taking place March 9th-24th.

The NEW Fire in the Hole ride will officially have its Grand Opening on Saturday, March 30th!

The final year for Street Fest will take place April 11th-29th. We cannot wait to see all of the street performances. Of course, we will not miss the Street Fest Tasting Passport. Be sure to follow our YouTube channel and right here on the blog for SDC updates throughout the year!

Opening in Spring of 2024, Ozark Nights is prepared to take you on a nighttime journey where "the forest glows and the folktales grow." Shrouded in mystery, even Branson locals were kept in the dark about what this new attraction truly was...until now. Ozark Nights encourages you to explore and investigate the strange happenings that once haunted the Owen Ranch property on your immersive walk through the woods. End the night sitting around their complimentary fire pits, sharing your own strange stories and indulging in some delightful fare.

Visit Dogwood Canyon and Top of the Rock

The Dogwood trees will start blooming with warmer Spring weather,  and here in early March the weather is gorgeous right now. Dogwood Canyon is an excellent place to explore nature year-around.

You can explore the grounds at Top of the Rock, either by doing a walking tour OR the Lost Canyon Cave and & Nature Trail Golf Cart Tour. You will see gorgeous waterfalls, drive through a cave that will leave you in awe, and see some of the most beautiful views around. And if you’re a golfer, the Big Cedar Lodge area is a gorgeous place to do so in the Spring time.

Foliage is starting to bloom, and the fresh, green grass is beyond captivating in these Ozarks hills. Enjoy any of our local Branson parks and trails for amazing Ozarks views and experiences. If you’re looking for any recommendations on trails or parks, feel free to comment down below, and we are happy to give you our Branson locals' recommendations!

Hog Wild Adventures

Even though it is technically outside of Branson in Omaha, Arkansas, a short 20 minute drive will take you to an extremely cool opportunity to truly be immersed in nature.  We are gonna warn you though, you will get muddy.

Hog Wild Adventures offers a unique trip through the hills and creeks of our area.  This locally owned business will allow you the opportunity to drive side by sides through 20 miles of trails in the heart of the Ozarks.  The hour and a half guided off road tour utilizes 4 seater side by sides to traverse steep hills and ridges, cross creeks and navigate wooded trails.  Your tour guide will take you to absolutely stunning scenic overlooks as well.  This adventure is family friendly for kids 5 and older.  Not many attractions in our area will allow you to take the wheel of such a trip through our countryside and Spring seems to be the perfect time to take your family on a unique outdoor experience.

Pink Jeep Tours:

If you would rather have someone drive you around Branson to take in mother nature, then that is available too.  You can experience the magic of the Ozarks like never before from the comfort of a custom Pink Jeep® Wrangler. Wind past lakeside landmarks and ascend off-road trails to the summit of Baird Mountain while expert, local guides bring centuries of mountain history and culture to life.

Pink Jeep Tours offers many different options when it comes to their tours.  Depending on which tour you choose, it will have a different amount of time and price.  Some of them focus more on the natural beauty of our area, while other tours will showcase downtown historic Branson as well as the natural ecosystems that we have in our area.   Two of the cooler things about Pink Jeep Tours is they will take you to an amazing private vista that is only available on their tours, and they offer sunset tours to see once in a lifetime views that your family will remember forever.  This Spring, make sure you take advantage of the natural beauty of the Ozarks while enjoying your time in the sweet ride that Pink Jeep Tours offers.

Spring will also bring back to life many of our LIVE shows and entertainment in Branson. This Spring, we highly recommend checking out the NEW shows at the Reza LIVE Theatre:

Dustin Tavella- "Now I See"

Jay Osmund LIVE

MJ The Illusion: Re-Living the King of Pop

Aaron Wayne's Sweet Dreams Comedy Hypnosis Show

Phil Dalton's Theater of Illusion

Reza Edge of Illusion

There are many more shows and activities coming your way this year. Please be sure to SUBSCRIBE on our YouTube channel and follow us here on the blog. We look forward staying connected with you all and to bringing you more Branson news and content. Until our next adventure, fam, we'll catch y'all later!

The Butterfly Palace in Branson, Missouri

If you are looking for a beautiful adventure in Branson, Missouri, then we highly recommend visiting The Butterfly Palace. On top of meeting hundreds of butterflies in their beautiful top floor aviary, you will also find this attraction to be extremely fun and educational with many more activities within!

Something we truly love about this attraction is that you will receive a wrist band, which provides you the opportunity to visit The Butterfly Palace for three full days. Your purchase date will be the first day that you are welcome to visit as long as you would like during their operating hours. So feel free to leave for other activities and always feel welcome to return within your 3-day admission.

Your all-day admission includes:

  1. Entrance into the exotic butterfly aviary
  2. Passage into the Living Rainforest Science Center
  3. Viewing of educational videos inside the Rainforest Theatre
  4. Explore through the Banyan Tree Bungee Adventure
  5. Journey through the Emerald Forest Mirror Maze
Our kids absolutely love The Butterfly Palace. If we have an open afternoon, they often ask if we can visit to see all of the beautiful animals within. They also love the Banyan Tree bungee jungle, as well as seeing their parents get lost in the mirror maze.

We highly suggest starting your adventure at the Rainforest Science Center, where you will meet over 25 live reptiles and amphibians from the rainforest. Workers will have "critter encounters" throughout the day, where you can pet different critters and learn more about their roles in the rainforest.

Our kids then need to get out some energy, so we let them explore in the Banyan Tree Bungee Adventure, as well as the Emerald Forest Mirror Maze. Just keep an eye on the kiddos because this maze can get very tricky!

After the kids have released some energy, it's time to settle in and learn at the Rainforest Theatre. In this theatre, you will view educational videos about different species of butterflies, as well as information about the different rainforests. You also learn more about the partnership and contribution of this attraction to help preserve rainforests and wildlife.

The highlight of most visitors' experience here is in the top floor Exotic Butterfly Aviary. You will view over 1,000 exotic butterflies imported from the rainforest. There are actually 40-60 different species of butterflies in here. Be sure to grab a nectar flower to feed the butterflies. Pro Tip: Wear bright colors! The butterflies love the bright colors on your clothes! Having these beauties so close is a simply magical experience. You'll feel like a kid again, back in wonder of a butterfly landing on you. You can also view beautiful birds and walk elevated wooden bridges throughout the aviary.

Funny story, the kids and I accidentally spilled apple juice on Paul's (Dad of the Branson Fam) shirt earlier in the day, and the butterflies absolutely loved landing on him. He was the "butterfly man" that day!

We hope you have a chance to visit The Butterfly Palace on one of your upcoming trips to Branson. It's a truly beautiful attraction that is fun for all ages.

Check out this section of their website to view hours and $AVE on entry into The Butterfly Palace:

We would love to stay connected with you, so please let us know if you have any questions. If you find our videos and blog posts to be helpful, please SUBSCRIBE! Thanks so much for exploring with us. Until our next adventure, fam, we'll catch y'all later!

Branson's Wild World

Branson’s Wild World is located just down the hill from the Walmart on the Hwy 76 strip. This was our family’s first visit to Branson’s Wild World, so we didn’t know exactly what to expect. We were excited to see and learn about some unique animals. We were pleasantly surprised by all of the encounters that this attraction had to offer. When you enter the doors, you will check in at the counter where you can even add nine holes of mini golf onto your ticket for a couple dollars extra, which we definitely did!

At Branson's Wild World, you will visit over 400 species of mammals, fish, reptiles, and birds. There are several animal encounters where you can get up close and personal with the animals in their habitats. During our visit, we enjoyed visiting with the dingoe's, feeding sharks,  feeding stingrays, holding the large snake, experiencing the doctor fish cleaning our hands, and our all-time favorite Lemur Playground encounter. Since our visit, they have added that you can also now feed the otters! Just sayin,' now we HAVE to go back! There is a per-person fee for each added animal encounter. However, we have found each of these prices to be very reasonable.

Though most of this attraction features animals indoors, there is also a cool section outside with a few of the bigger animals. Animals outdoors include the BIG CATS, like lions and tigers! You will also see a pack of wolves and see the kangaroos and cavys play in a separate habitat. You will also see foxes, hyenas, and so much more. We highly suggest that you have your phones and cameras ready because this place is full of photo ops and memories you will want to look back on forever.

The owner of this attraction also owns Retromania in Branson, which we have visited and created a video here as well. So be on the lookout for our Retromania blog post in the near future!

We hope you have a chance to visit Branson's Wild World. It is a very neat attraction with plenty of animal encounters. You can $AVE money on tickets by visiting their website and using the coupon from their site!

WonderWorks Branson

WonderWorks Branson is a perfect place to visit with your family year- around because there is something for everyone to do completely indoors. There are over 100 educational, hands-on experiences and displays that can spark your mind, creativity, and imagination. Three floors of fun and learning await you. There is a story as to why this place appears upside-down, but we will let you hear that story when you visit!

From the moment you enter the doors, you feel immersed into an environment that you KNOW will be a good time. Once you have purchased your tickets, head through the turnstiles to begin your journey through the WonderWorks laboratory.

Though there are MANY more activities than what we will mention here in the blog, we would like to mention a few of our favorites from each floor. Be sure to check out our full video above to see all of the activities in this awesome attraction.

1st Floor- Ground Level

Extreme 360 Bikes

Upon entering the first floor, you will be immersed in activities.  On this floor, you will experience physical challenges and learn about how physics plays out in our daily lives. One of the first exhibits that may catch your eye is the Extreme 360 Bikes, where, if you pedal hard enough, you can pedal yourself all the way around toward the top of the ceiling and upside-down! You can either take the challenge to pedal on your own, or strap in with a partner for double the power!

XD Theater

Over by the bikes and Pull Yourself Up is the XD theater which combines 3D films with special effects.  These effects include full motion seating that range from subtle sensations to intense vibrations as well as large fans blowing wind in your face and sound that surrounds you to add to the immersion. Our 4 year-old (at the time) loved this experience, as she felt like she was on a brand new ride and adventure! There is a 40” height requirement to take part in this experience.

Wonder Park

Test your agility and precision as an athlete at the next stop on the first floor.  That stop is the Wonder Park.  In the Wonder Park you get to try to strike out an MLB player, throw a football like a pro bowler, kick a soccer ball to score goals on an alien defender, and even get in a round of dodgeball against some virtual zombies.  As you throw or kick balls at the interactive screen, it will tell you the speed and trajectory of the ball and show you where it would have ended up.  Everyone in our family had a great time at this station!

2nd Floor: By far, our family's favorite level of WonderWorks!

Lazer Maze

Another fun experience for the family is The Lazer Maze. It will make you feel like a secret agent, dodging laser beams; or, you could just be like us and look like total maniacs trying to neutralize all of the lazers before your time is up!  Either of these options is a lot of fun, and just like everything else in Wonderworks, feel free to replay it as many times as you want for no additional cost.

Astronaut Training Challenge

After pretending to be a secret agent, maybe you will want to try out another cool profession.  If so, make your way over to the Astronaut Training Challenge, where you can feel the seated weightlessness of being in outer space! The motion of this gyroscope is directed by the movement and shifting of the riders’ bodies and the turning force.

Dig It

Another thing that our girls loved was the Dig It area! This interactive sandbox lets you be the creator of your own terrain. You can dig ocean channels, build volcanic mountains, or create flat planes for the dinosaurs to roam on. At this sandpit, you have all the power! It is made possible through augmented reality. While you interact with the sand, computer-generated, sensory-inducing elements react to what you are doing and change the appearance of the landscape.

Wonder Coaster

As you continue to go around the second floor, you will definitely notice a small line of people waiting to ride in one of the two wonder coasters.  Seating 2 people at a time, this virtual reality coaster has the ability to turn 360 degrees and turn in every direction. This ride feels like you are on an actual roller coaster and offers three different levels of difficulty.

Giant Piano

If you would rather try out your musical skills instead of hanging upside down, then head on over to the giant piano where you can try to play music with your feet! If you lack the ability to compose your own music, there are several pieces of music posted on the WonderWorks Music Wall to attempt to play.

Bubble Lab

Another second floor area that is a family favorite is the Bubble Lab! Create bubbles larger than your head, or maybe even larger than some people in your family! Have you ever been entranced by the different colors of bubbles as they float through the air? In the bubble lab, you can learn about how they are actually reflections and refractions of the light around the bubble. The colors show how thick, or thin, the bubble wall actually is.

Bed of Nails

After all of these fun activities, you are probably ready to lay down for a bit.  Only at Wonder Works, there happens to be a twist on your nap time.  That twist is that your bed is made of nails that will support your body without causing any harm.  The nails are real so make sure you are following the instructions as this demonstrates how surface area and pressure are related to allow one to lay on a fairly scary bed of spikes.

3rd Floor

Tesla Coil

After finishing the art gallery, you will see the stairs that take you to the third floor.  Once you have reached the 3rd floor, be sure to check out the Tesla Coil on your left. This exhibit makes you a human lightning rod! See, hear, and touch the power of 100,000 volts of electricity as you learn about the invention of physicist and engineer Nikola Tesla. In a shocking twist though, you will feel no pain at all from the electricity.

Hurricane Shack

Next to the Tesla Coil is a way to feel some effects of a hurricane.  If you choose to do so, Step into the Hurricane Shack, where you can feel winds reaching 74 miles per hour. Apparently, the hurricane in this simulation is considered merely a mild one, but Charleigh and Jayme felt like they could be blown away!

Titanic

Across the room from the Hurricane Shack is an interactive display on the Titanic.  A timer allows you to see how long you can experience 28° F water.  That is what the temperature of the water was when the Titanic sank.  You can also test your grip and incline skills as you experience simulations of the sloping deck at different points in time of the ship’s sinking.

Astronaut Montage

If the Astronaut Training Challenge wasn’t enough to test your future in aeronautics, you can find several additional space-focused experiences here on the 3rd floor to explore.

Clip & Climb

In this same section is a rock climbing experience.  The Clip and Climb allows you to test your climbing skills.  Charleigh was just big enough to be able to do this one and it instantly became a challenge to herself to conquer!  After one failed attempt, our feisty four year old was able to make it to the top and hit the button on the straight vertical side of the Clip and Climb.  For more of a challenge, the other side offers a nonstandard climb where you will need to carefully plan out your steps to make it to the top.

Laser Tag

Laser Tag is a family must-do! Try to link up together on one team, or play every person for themselves in the laser tag course! Little pro tip if you have a little one that  doesn't want to wear the heavy vest, have them stay with a grown up.  Then make the little one your “doctor” that heals you when you get hit by your opponents. Worked like a charm for our 2 year old, who wasn’t quite ready for her own laser gun, but still wanted to take part in the fun! Let’s just say I was healed a LOT in that game.

We hope that you have a chance to visit WonderWorks Branson- it is fun and educational for all ages! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask in the comments. We would love to stay connected with you, so please remember to SUBSCRIBE here on the blog AND on our BransonFam YouTube channel. Until our next adventure, fam, we'll catch y'all later!
